lance
Here's a short guide to get the media player to work. It's annoying, but it can still work. Here are the current requirements to get it to work: Must be on the chromium branch (duh). You can enable this by right-clicking gmod in your Steam library > properties> beta> and then opt-in to the chromium branch The song must be a non-copyrighted song from Soundcloud (usually popular shit doesn't work, nor will songs with the "GO" icon on them work), or a direct audio link (link ending in .mp3, etc). We'll get into how you can do this sooner. Playing Soundcloud: Open the media player and go to browse songs. You will then need to type in the Soundcloud website link (soundcloud.com). From there, search your song, whatever. Once you find your song, you need to click on the share button, and copy the link for the song. Then paste it into the media player and click play from there. Simply going to the song page will not work because the URL does not update on the fly. NOTE: Try not to queue long songs or you will encounter script errors and freezes. Hope it works. If it doesn't, give it a few seconds, if it still doesn't you can try one more time, but beyond that it just won't work. Playing direct audio links: For this method, the auto loop will not work. To replay the song you will need to requeue it manually. If you already have a link ending in .mp3, or .ogg, or something, you can easily pop it into media player and it will play. But if you don't, here's how you can host one using kiwi6. Get your .mp3 file. Doesn't matter from where, just get one, whether you use an online youtube downloader, youtube-dl, etc. Go to https://kiwi6.com/ (with an adblocker!) and make an account, then go to https://kiwi6.com/uploads/new. Upload the .mp3 there. Then copy the "direct hotlink URL" displayed to the right of the screen. Paste it into your browser to test it- it should bring you to a page that is nothing but gray and the audio player- this is your browser's default media player. If it does, paste this into media player and you're good- it will play, guaranteed. If it does not, maybe try reuploading it. This also works for live radio station links, ending in .m3u, .mp3, or .ogg. Yes- media player will stream them live! You can even host your own if you learn how. This is by far the best thing you can probably do if you want uninterrupted audio. I like finding these streams from http://dir.xiph.org/ . You will need to find one that says "ogg vorbis" under it. Once you find one with that, and one you like, right-click the little player thing on the right and click "copy audio location"- the link in your clipboard should end in .ogg. Then paste that into media player! For instance, I like this ambient station: http://radio.108.pl:8006/ambient.ogg . Hope this helps you guys! Link to comment
